Getting Organized for Back-to-School

My girls are starting preschool next month! So this is my first back to school season (but since we’ve never been to school before then is it just called “to school”?). Anyways, I really need to get things ready to make the mornings go smoothly and to keep all their necessities organized. Then I realized I had no idea where to start! So I asked a friend whose daughter is in her second year of preschool for some advice.

Her main recommendation was to plan ahead! For example, clothes are a big battle for her. She has one of these hanging shelves (like this one from IKEA). Here you can create an outfit a day ahead of time, and one shelf=one day. Her daughter has input so she feels like she has a say in what she wears and everyone is happy in the morning (most of the time, anyways)! And even if you don’t have a fashionista preschooler, it’s still good to have outfits planned out…one less thing to think about in the morning.

IKEA

Another way to plan ahead is to wake up before your kids do to get things ready. And the night before, you can get some prep work done as well. Do what you can: pack your lunches ahead of time and line up shoes and backpacks by the door. Your kids can help do these things…designate a backpack station like this one so they know where everything should go. You can even start “training” them before school starts!

Create a checklist with exactly what needs to be done every morning. Here’s a preschool checklist I made for my girls…you can add to it for bigger kids, and they can even check things off themselves as they get older.

You can do an after school checklist too. Even better, do a visual one, like this from Amy @ Living Locurto:

Here are some other organizational products for back to school:

-Etsy is a great source for back to school! Love this backpack from Stitches from the South

-Paper Source always has the perfect calendars! I love their academic year calendar.

-Make sure your kids don’t confuse their stuff with classmates with Loveable Labels – For their shoes, clothes, cups, and everything else they bring to school.

BTS-nature-group

-Keep girls’ accessories in one place with Real Mom Amanda’s adorable hair bow keeper!

-I’ve always loved this system from Pottery Barn to keep the whole family organized. I bet you could DIY a version too (please share if you’ve made something similar!)

I know I have barely scratched the surface. What are your back to school tips for staying organized? Do share in the comments!

As always, thanks for Chit-Chatting with me!

I Need To Organize My Closet? {Space Bag Review}

This spring I made a goal with myself. I would clean out every closet in my house.

I started with the master bedroom closet, moved to the kids closets….and then when I hit my linen closet…I hit a wall! What a mess. Blankets and towels, sheets galore. Way too much stuff to fit in that one tiny closet.

I was then introduced to the Space Savers Space Bag! The perfect solution to my closet organization problem. I was sent a package with a variety of Space Bags to test out.

I simply folded up my linens neatly, placed them in the bags, and used my vacuum to suction out all of the air. Wow, the amount of room it created was amazing. I was able to literally move everything from three shelves all onto the top shelf. They were super easy to use, anyone can do it. I love that they are clear so I can easily see what is inside when needed. Thanks Space Bag for helping me reach my Spring goal of organizing all of my closets! I am certainly going to purchase more for my basement storage, sweaters, and more!

Girls Rule! {Carolina Pad Dreamsicile Giveaway} CLOSED

Dreamsicle Dreamsicle, a stylish new collection of school and office supplies from Carolina Pad, was inspired by the Girls on the Run mission and its founder, Molly Barker and designed by JACK!E (www.jackiemcfee.com) . Girls on the Run inspires 3rd through 8th grade girls to stay true to themselves and live free from societal stereotypes. The 12 week after-school curriculum innovatively weaves training for a 5k run with lessons that empower girls to celebrate their bodies, honor their voices and embrace their gifts. Girls on the Run has more than 150 councils across North America, serving more than 50,000 girls annually.

Carolina Pad sent me their Dreamsicle Collection for review. The productsDreamsicleFB were in beautiful, girly colors without being too cutesy, so a 3rd grader, 8th grader or a grown-up can use them. Some of the notebooks come with letter stickers, allowing you to personalize it and make it your own, and the journal has inspiring quotations from Eleanor Roosevelt, Louisa May Alcott, Albert Einstein and others throughout its pages.

It is so hard to be a girl sometimes. I remember being teased when I was a kid, and even now I see women tearing down other women. As a mother of girls, I am thankful for organizations such as Girls on the Run that lift up girls so that they can become strong women and lift up the generation after them.

The Dreamsicle Collection is available at retailers such as Walmart, CVS and Office Max.

Organize Your Garage {Ball Claws Review}

The Ball Claw holder is a quick and easy way to organize sport balls in any garage, basement, or child’s bedroom. Preserve the life of basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, and footballs while displaying them in an organized fashion. Inside, outside, and in any kind of weather, the Ball Claw is THE way to display, organize, and preserve your sport ball collection.

I think this is the most clever invention. I mean…hello I am the queen of organization. I love having everything in it’s perfect place. I use baskets and bins galore around my home. When I received my ball claw for our basket ball I was thrilled. It is perfect for a organizing nut like myself. My hubby attached it to the garage wall and up went the basket ball. We used to keep it on the shelf and it would roll off every now and again and really annoy me. Not anymore! Thanks Ball Claw. I {heart} my super organized sports area in my garage now!

Upon receiving my package from Ball Claws, I opened it up and showed my husband what was inside.  One claw to hold basketballs and one claw to hold footballs.  I could hardly get them out of the box before my husband was taking them out of my hand to claim as his own.  They quickly were mounted to the garage wall.  We didn’t have any balls that looked presentable enough to be mounted on the wall so it was a must to go out and purchase new balls.  This product is a great way to store balls, keep them off the garage floor, out of the way of cars, and help to keep them easily accessible and easily storable for any age.  Our house is now prepared with new balls and a great way to store them.

Our two-car garage doesn’t have much storage space, so every inch is packed! One thing that is often seen rolling around when I pull into the garage is our soccer ball! My girls love their soccer ball…they want to be just like their cousin, who is an awesome soccer player. I like the Ball Claw because it gives our soccer ball an out-of-the-way, yet easily accessible spot to store it. It keeps it off the floor and I no longer have to get out of the car, toss the ball aside and jump back into the car again to pull it into the garage! And instead of storing the ball in a box as we were before, it’s up on the wall so the floor space is saved for bigger things like golf clubs and bikes. It’s definitely something we’ll use for many years to come.

Organizing a Play Room!

Ok I know you are all guilty of it….spoiling your kiddos! Don’t deny it. We know you do!!!

Am I right??? Of course I am.

Well, this Christmas was so much fun with our 14 month old as he loves toys! Well we love the idea of getting him fun toys. So first it was “he needs some cars”, then it was “he needs some big blocks”….you see where I am going with this. In the end we ended up with too many toys for the small space.

He has Toys Toys and more Toys everywhere. He has his new Christmas toys along with all of his baby toys. We decided that there were just too many of them in the den, kitchen, and family room so we decided to clean out a spare bedroom and make it his toy room! Genius idea! As I won’t have to clean up the toys scattered all over the house. Now I have a problem….I am not sure how to organize this room so it isn’t cluttered beyond belief. I moved all of his toys into this spare room and they line around the outer edges of all the walls. Hello Chaos! I don’t know how he can even play because there is way too much going on. I need something to store them in….

So I went searching on Google and found some great ideas for organizing a play room and decided to share them with you! Maybe it will spark your interest in organizing your child’s bedroom or play area. I know it did mine.

I love the idea of incorporating bright colors…Creating such a colorful space would definitely make the room pop and scream FUN!
