A Wink And A Smile

Last week I was at the optometrist with my oldest daughter, and while we were browsing the eyewear department, I saw this disturbing poster with eye “diseases”.  One of them was macular degeneration.  Have y’all heard of this?  For some reason I’ve only heard people like my grandma talking about this, so I thought maybe it was something that older people were susceptible to or perhaps a hereditary disease.  Well, according to the optometrist I spoke with, it is actually caused by UV exposure!!  Yikes, another reason to protect your eyes with sunglasses!!
Winkniks is a company ran by two moms who want to specifically address UV eye protection for children.  Since 50% of sun eye exposure can happen before the age of 18, they knew that child size “toy” glasses just won’t do.  They set out to create glasses that offer 100% or UV 400 protection, with durable materials, like stainless steel and cellulose acetate, to stand up to rough and tumble kiddos.  Quality, style and proper fit were key.

Miss S. received the “Emmett” aviator Winknik sunglasses and felt like a rock star when she put them on.  That’s a good thing for a tweenager! Kids are all about style and us moms are all about the protection they don’t notice is going on.  I think it is fantastic that Winkniks specializes in styles for small child faces.  Miss S. is on the brink of the age where they may look small on her face, so these glasses will be perfect to clean and hand down to one of her little cousins.
Winkniks currently has 5 styles in their collection;  Emmett (aviator), Jadon (wayfarer), Hazel (round lens acetate), Clementine (cat eye acetate) and Riley (vintage inspired).  Each style has various color choices for your fashion forward child.
