Christmas is coming……what will you be purchasing for the smarty pants in your family?!?A great way to spend quality time with your family is to host a game night. Turn off cell phones, tv, computers and turn the focus to a good ol’ fashioned card or board game. It’s guaranteed to stimulate conversation, laughter, and bonding.
I grew up playing all sorts of games, everything from the purely entertaining, to the kind requiring thinking caps to be on. I particularly love the brain challenging variety, so when I was introduced to Funnybone Toys and their masterful collection of 3 games; Spectrix, Cubu & Array, I was thrilled. Each beautifully crafted, museum quality game, sparks creativity by using colors and shapes to form various sequences. My love of paint sample cards drew me to Spectrix. Read my review here. The game instructs you to create a spectrum by placing cards in groupings of certain colors before your opponents do. Pretty to look at and fun for all ages!

Cubu, the newest game I tested, uses visual illusion to stump players. Each player is dealt cards that have a varying number of rectangular colored shapes. Players take turns discarding cards that move up or down in a sequence. For example, if I had a Cubu card with four shapes, the third shape being blue, then I would need a card in my hand with a blue shape in the second or fourth position to continue my play. I can play as many cards in my hand that continues a sequence, with the goal being to get rid of all the cards in my hand. When you have nothing to add to a sequence play moves on to the next opponent. Action cards that skip a player, make them draw cards and even switch hands with another player are thrown into the mix for more challenge. You must think strategically to win! It all may sound foreign, but its a bunch of fun! Watch the video posted above to see how it works!
