Let me share some myths that car owners should stop believing or practicing as part of my life goal to write a book about Auto detailing in Saint Johns County. It would be best if you also refrained from sharing.
You can wash your vehicle at any time.
This sounds great until you stop and think about it. You can wash your car any time you like, but you cannot do it at all times. It will heat up if you just drove your car or left it in the sun. It will cause spots and deposits to form because the soap and water will dry faster. It won’t be as easy if it cools down.
Dishwashing detergent can be a great choice.
This is a common myth that many people don’t get, regardless of how many times it has been repeated. Let me simplify. Dishwashing detergents are a powerful washing choice. It removes oil, grease, and dirt. Additionally, it removes the protective polymer.
It is one thing to wash and clean.
Washing is a $10 service that makes a vehicle’s exterior sparkle. It is more thorough, takes longer and costs more. It focuses on interior stains and stubborn stains. This should be done at least once a year.
Shiny equals clean
How deceiving is the eyes! You can have a car that shines brightly and yet still look dirty. Touch testing is the only way to know. The body will feel smooth if it is done correctly. You will feel bumps if you don’t do it correctly. To remove dirt and grime, you can use clay bars.
Waxing and polishing can be used interchangeably.
There is a significant difference between them. Polishing is used to shine the car’s exterior. Waxing is done to protect the vehicle’s finish. This is achieved by wax resins, silicones, and polymers. A dull surface can be made shiny by wax.
Wax protection can be effective for up to five years.
This classic sales pitch is, unfortunately, a myth. Regardless of what the dealer or manufacturer may say, the wax’s lifespan depends on how the car is used.
Only wash when you are dirty.
Most people only wash their cars if there is visible dirt on the car or if a child leaves a message asking for help. This dirt can slowly rip away the wax, causing damage to the paint finish. Regularly wash your car.
