Gut Goodness

School is back in session.  Hope y’all had (or are making the most of what you have left of….) summer!  My family definitely enjoyed taking a break from all the deadlines we have during the school year.  Don’t you wish we had a few more vacations…..and I don’t mean the hectic traveling kind that is all planned out and busy, but the I have no where to go kind where your body catches up on the sleep it needs?
It is so easy for our bodies to become out of whack when we forget to slow down.  Whether stress buildup comes from school, work, family life or the environment, it effects our bodies ability to fight off germs and bacteria which leads to illnesses.  Did you know that our gut lining controls around 70% of our immune systems?  When I recently learned this I started thinking about what I should be doing to protect this lining, because I don’t know about you, but I would prefer not to take any “sick days” this school year!
Think of a garden compost pile……you throw your food scraps and landscape debris (aka garbage) in a pile in your yard, not much at first, but over time while you turn it, the pile builds heat and good micro-organisms that break down the waste, until finally it becomes wonderful garden compost that veggies thrive in.  This is sort of how our gut works.  When we have good microbes floating around, breaking down the food we eat and helping our bodies get rid of it, then we have the energy we need to keep our gut lining strong and bad bacteria out, leaving us with a healthy happy body.  If there is no good flora in the gut, then our bodies work extra hard digesting, and have little left to defend against bad bacteria.
To reach balanced body harmony as the school year begins, I’m taking and giving my daughters Family Flora’s Daily Balance Probiotic + Prebiotics.   I have seen Family Flora at Target the last couple visits and was thrilled to be able to review it and share with y’all.  Family Flora’s Junior Daily Balance and Daily Balance blends promote digestion and immune system health.  Junior daily balance, formulated for ages 2-14, contains 10 billion CFU’s (colonizing forming units) of good flora and Daily Balance contains 15 billion CFU’s.  Inside each box is 30 individual packets of the blend, which is instructed to be added to a cold drink or cold food (heat can destroy the good bacteria).  My daughter and I have been adding it to our morning bottle of water or iced tea.  I was thrilled that the powdered mix didn’t leave a bad aftertaste.  Using pro/pre- biotics are something I am going to make an effort to use going forward especially when I know I’m going to be under stress.
Would you like to give Family Flora a try?  Here is a $3 coupon to help in your decision.
Cheers to a  Healthy Happy School Year!!
